Introduction
With the resignation and subsequent departure in January 1944 of Reverend G Kenneth Lowe, chaplain of Christ Church Cathedral, the Falkland Islands News Weekly and Church Bulletin ceased.
A new paper, the Falkland Islands Weekly News, was started by Reverend W Forrest McWhan, the Tabernacle minister. Reverend McWhan wrote in the 25th November 1943 issue of The Falkland Islands News Weekly and Church Bulletin ’The Weekly Newspaper in 1944 will really be a continuation of the paper of this year, but will be purely a Newspaper. It will be called “The Falkland Islands Weekly News” and will be published from the first Thursday in January at a cost of 3d per copy, 12/- per year in Stanley, 14/- per year post free in the Camp, and to Britain. All rates, including subscriptions are payable in advance. It is hoped that all who in the past have been readers of “The Falkland Islands News Weekly and Church Bulletin” will continue as readers of the Weekly paper in the future. The same Office with Miss J. Gleadell in charge, is being used.’
This weekly periodical was also issued on a Thursday and covered local social events as well as Gazette notices, war news and local advertisements.
