Introduction
After a gap in local periodicals of nine years from October 1949 to November 1958 the Falkland Islands Monthly Review was started December 1958 by the then Colonial Secretary, Denton Thompson, and the Government Printer, Vernon “Joe” King.
It was initially produced in a large four page format with local news and items of general interest on the front and third page while the second page carried local advertisements and the back page was blank. By June 1959 the local news and items on page 3 were moved to page 4 and the third page featured photographs, usually from overseas.
When Joe King went on overseas leave early 1963 Douglas R Morrison volunteered to take on the production and from then on it was produced in a smaller roneod format with various editors over its life. From January 1963 there was a far more in depth coverage of local news and events such as weddings, sports and school prize giving.
Period Covered: December 1958 to April 1973. Status: Complete set.
