Introduction
The Falkland Islands Currency Note Order, 1899 came into operation 16 October 1899 – “Whereas by an Order in Council, bearing date the 7th day of March in the present year, Her Most Excellent Majesty was pleased to make provision for the issue of Government Paper Currency within the Colony of the Falkland Islands.” The notes could be issued under the following denominations: 5s, 10s, £1, £5 and any multiple of £5. In the first seven years notes were issued as follows:
